casting Station, Korea’s first radio station. After liberation, it was reestablished
as Seoul Central Broadcasting in 1947. In 1961, it began broadcasting

that continues to this day.
KBS has 4 terrestrial TV channels (HD 1·2TV·UHD 1·2TV), 2 satellite TV
channel (KBS World, KBS World24), 7 radio channels, 4 DMB channels and
new media services including my K. KBS is headquartered in Yeouido, Seoul, and maintains 9 other stations in
major cities around Korea. There are 14 branch locations worldwide, inclu-
ding in the U.S., Europe, China, and Japan, where writers and PDs can work
as correspondents. KBS operates on license fees and advertisements, but in
order to support public broadcasting, 1TV and 1Radio have been operating
free of advertisements since October 1994. KBS fosters culture and the arts
by maintaining the KBS Hall, which seats 1,600, and by running the KBS
