Introduction:

The Centenary Farmers’ Market (CFM) was established in 2008 with the mandate to provide a platform for Bhutanese farmers to sell their agricultural produce and its products in a vibrant marketplace. The Royal Government of Bhutan established the existing infrastructure as part of National Celebrations of three significant milestones in the country’s history: 100 years of Monarchy, the Coronation of His Majesty the Fifth King, and the First Democratic Elections.

Today, based on a Cabinet Directive (vide Letter No. C-3/109 dated August 5, 2009), Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) under Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) plays the overarching role in the operation and Management of the CFM. While the Head of BAFRA provides overall guidance and leadership to CFM, an independently recruited Management team shoulders the responsibility of its day-to-day operation and management. The CFM Management receives technical and advisory support from BAFRA staff, especially the Focal point.

The CFM is governed by a Board of Directors with representation from relevant Departments and Agencies chaired by the Hon’ble Minister, MoAF, and DG BAFRA/ Head of CFM Management as Vice Chair, and Manager CFM as Member Secretary.
